“I’m seriously starting to wonder what even is the point of all of this…”
Ok-Pop albums typically have been reaching new gross sales peaks seemingly regularly for the final yr or so. While a part of it’s because of the rising recognition of the music style world wide, there’s a extra controversial facet to it that many netizens see as problematic.
It was once the norm for an album to have only one or a few variations for followers to buy. This was the case with BTS‘s best-selling albums such as Love Yourself: Answer and Map of the Soul: 7, each of which had four versions each.
Now, however, it has become seemingly normal for K-Pop groups to release 10+ versions of an album, making it much more difficult for fans to collect them all and potentially creating a lot more waste from albums that only get purchased for the photocards. It has also contributed at least in part to the sudden and extreme increase in album sales, which sometimes makes impressive sales achievements seem a little less impactful than they would otherwise be.
And it seems that ITZY has joined the increasing number of K-Pop artists are releasing an excessive number of albums.
For their upcoming album, Kill My Doubt (set to release on July 31), fans have discovered that there will be 20 different versions including digipaks and cassette versions.

The label has even spoken about wanting to reduce album packaging waste, and so releasing so many versions of Kill My Doubt seems counterintuitive to that goal.

They also discussed what was mentioned above, that the increasing number of sales for K-Pop artists isn’t as spectacular with so many variations of an album.

How do you’re feeling about the best way that Ok-Pop labels appear to be going with their album advertising and marketing and manufacturing?
